KOOKAÏ’s charity arm, Katalyst Foundation, has launched an appeal in support of the victims of tropical cyclone Winston - the category 5 storm that devastated the Fiji Islands on the 20th and 21st February 2016.

Being the biggest storm ever recorded in the Southern Hemisphere, parts of Fiji have been left completely decimated, with whole villages destroyed and urgent access to medical care, food, water and shelter being a priority.

The Katalyst Foundation has been undertaking charity work in some of the poorer provinces of Fiji for many years now.  Although one of Australia and New Zealand’s closest neighbours and known as an exotic holiday destination, almost one third of Fiji’s population live below the poverty line, leaving the Fijian people already vulnerable and with limited resources to overcome natural disasters. For more information on Katalyst visit; www.katalystfoundation.org

We have been personally touched by this disaster, with just under 1,000 of our employees residing in Fiji and it being the homeland of one of our founders.  We are therefore appealing to our KOOKAÏ customers to join us in helping the Fijian people by providing a donation, however large or small, to our Rebuild Fiji Appeal.

The appeal is being held in collaboration with the Melbourne University Health Initiative who will be collecting all donations received through our appeal and using the funds to buy urgent supplies, including:

  • Medical equipment
  • Shelter
  • Food
  • Water
  • Fuel
  • Clothing
  • Diapers and baby formula
  • Sanitary napkins

You can donate by:

  • Clicking on the ‘Donate Now’ button below;

All donations above $2 are fully tax deductible.

Our founder, Rob Cromb, along with the Katalyst Foundation travelled to one of the hardest hit islands, personally delivering supplies and helping the island rebuild. We will continue to post photos and videos on our website to provide you with updates on how your generous donation has helped the people of Fiji.

For further information on the appeal or for donation of goods or services please contact: dianne.taylor@kookai.com.au
